Q. I was a student at Derby University but I haven’t had notification – what can I do?
A. Not all courses were affected by the inoculation issue. However if you are concerned then you can call the Derby University helpline on 03330 142479 when they should assist.
From what we can determine students on the following courses appear to have been affected and have been contacted by the University:
- MA Art Therapy
- MA Drama Therapy
- MSc Occupational Therapy
- BSc Occupational Therapy
- BSc Nursing (adult and mental health)
- Adv Dip in Nurse Studies (adult and mental health)
The inoculations and blood tests took place between 2005 through to 2013.
Q. Do I need to have been infected or become ill to make a claim?
A. You can claim simply for the shock and worry you may have suffered as a result of being informed of the situation and having to undergo investigations for possible infection. No actual infection needs to be established in order to claim.
Q. Will I have to go to court?
A. It is in our view unlikely that you will have to attend court as we hope liability will not be an issue in this case.
Q Will having the test impact upon my life insurance?
A. You would need to discuss this with your insurers however in view of the circumstances and, hopefully, the negative results we would hope not.
Q. If I did claim, how much would I receive?
A. Not everyone has been affected in the same way so it is not possible to give accurate figures at this stage. We would be better placed to advise you once we know your personal circumstances and how the incident had affected you. However we do believe that bringing a claim is worthwhile.
Q. How long will it take to process my claim?
A. Again, it is difficult to give a time estimate for claims however we would not expect there to be a prolonged wait for a liability decision and we hope that the valuation of your claim would be reasonably straight forward.
Q. How much will it cost me?
A. We can deal with your claim on a No Win – No Fee basis with no deduction from your damages for our fees; this means that regardless of the amount of work we do, you will not pay us a penny.
