How do you imagine lawyers spend their Sundays? Game of golf, spot of gardening, trip to local beauty spot with spouse and kids? how about dressing up as Tao the South African Lion and joining 116 other mascot suited runners and competing in the world’s largest ever mascot race, raising money for charity and entering the Guinness Book of World Records.

While a once in a lifetime dream for many of us, this is the reality for  Ian Steel of Leeds based Cohen Cramer Solicitors who took part in the Mascot Gold Cup at Wetherby race course on Sunday 26th April.

‘I was delighted to take part” said Ian ‘It was competitive mayhem. I managed to get a great start and avoid a major collision caused by Lego man stalling at the first fence and being flattened by a donkey. If I hadn’t been boxed in by Barney the Beetle and Sammy the Squirrel in the final furlong my kids could have been less ashamed of me coming 36th . Next year I hope to wear a costume which allows me to see where I’m going!”.

Sponsored by Foresters and in aid of Sue Ryder the race, which raised over £25,000 was run over a furlong with low jumps and was won by a purple beetle.
